they need to raise and protect their children; and to encourage parent and public involvement in
the public schools of this nation.
Rhode Island Science
Olympiad -- The Science Olympiad aims to teach science by involving students in active,
hands-on activities that emphasize problem solving and the scientific process. In state and
national competitions, winners of individual events win athletic-style medals, with winning teams
earning trophies. At the national level, there are substantial scholarships awarded to top
winners.
Rhode Island Science Teachers Association
(RISTA) -- The Rhode Island Science Teachers Association is an organization for all persons
committed to the development and advancement of science education in Rhode Island. RISTA sponsors
the annual State Science Teachers Conference, teacher workshops, and helps support various
statewide student competitions.
Rhode
Island Space Grant Consortium Teacher Partnership Program -- The Teacher Partnership Program
sends undergraduate and graduate science students (from all science, math and engineering
disciplines) into Rhode Island K-12 classrooms to conduct presentations and hands-on activities
related to either space science or to the university students' own science discipline and
research interests.
